Booster Patrol Retrospective #6

Posted on September 6, 2026

No Longer Breathing

Our twelfth Boomer Patrol song was recorded & released in January 2022. It’s a parody version of Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik. Vox wrote the lyrics, I sang and played it.

And no, I’d never heard of the original.

I believed your generation
Was gonna change the world
And now your own grandchildren
Don’t know they’re boy or girl
There’s not much to examine
There’s nothing left to hide
You really can’t be serious
If you have to ask me why
I say goodbye—

‘Cause you’re no longer breathing
And now you’re out of air
Don’t know who you’re kidding
Imagining I care
And I could stand here waiting
And watch as you fade away
I don’t suppose it’s worth the price
You’re worth the price,
The price that I would pay, yeah, yeah yeah

No Longer Breathing

In 2025 I created a video for the song, using Adobe Firefly to generate character animation based on an uploaded vocal track, which I then keyed into video that I created with Premiere.

Imagine There’s No Boomers

Our thirteenth Boomer Patrol song was recorded & released in February 2022.

This marks the end of the active phase of Boomer Patrol, as Vox and I had moved on to the next project, Booster Patrol. Upon investigation it turned out there was no feasible way to sell parody cover songs. Yes, yes, Weird Al exists, but he’s a special case. On the other hand, it’s trivial to get commercial licenses for ‘straight’ covers of songs. You can do whatever you like musically, you just can’t change the lyrics.

That said, there are a few more Boomer Patrol songs after this one. I enjoy doing parodies and poking the boomers, so every now and then I put out a new one just for fun.

Anyway, this is a parody version of the All-Time Number 1 Example of Boomer Cringe set to music, John Lennon’s Imagine. One of those songs that’s musically quite nice, but man, the lyrics… 🙄

Vox wrote the new and improved lyrics, and I sang and played it. Also, there’s a tasteful guitar solo which improves upon the original. Of course, that’s the sort of thing a guitar player would say.

Imagine all the pillows
So soft and fluffery
Gentle hand of mercy
That sets the nations free
Imagine all the boomers
Resting in their graves

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you will join us
And the boomers will be done

Imagine There’s No Boomers

In 2025 I created a video for the song. This time I designed a South Park version of mid-1970s John Lennon, and animated him by hand using Adobe Character Animator, and keyed him into a video done in Premiere. This is a technique that I haven’t revisited in any subsequent videos, so you can draw your own conclusions.

Big In Japan

Our first Booster Patrol song was recorded & released in March 2022.

The idea behind Booster Patrol, later described somewhat absurdly in our Crowdfund Launch Video (June 2022), was to take ’80s and ’90s pop songs and guitarify the heck out of them, complete with 1-minute solos and such. Because why not? These would be straight covers (unmodified lyrics, reimagined music) and thus something that could be licensed and sold. In theory, at any rate.

The kickoff track for the new project was Vox singing Alphaville’s Big In Japan, with a nice added guitar solo. He sang it, I played it. It was a very popular request on his Darkstream podcasts at the time.

As we were trying to sell the track, it was never up on SoundCloud. And still isn’t.

In 2025 I created a video for it, complete with various kaiju menacing the Japanese landscape. Because they’re big. And in Japan.
